October Week 2 – A summary

Half of October has already passed?! Time sure is flying by.. totally fine with me though – I can’t wait to go to Seattle Oct 25th and then finally get my love back with me second week of November after two months apart. (It should be against the law to be apart that long as newlyweds, right?!)

I’m still working on my October Goals and I actually think that I’m doing pretty good. One thing that I definitely will include in my November Goals is fueling. Lately I’ve been suffering from having no appetite and it doesn’t go well together with running/exercising like I do now. Change is necessary! But I’ll talk more about that later, focusing on October now:

1. Plank A Day

I did miss out on one day this week too. Shame on me! But in my defense my neighbor suddenly invited me to dinner and I stayed over there until I was so tired I barely managed to walk back home. I don’t really like excuses, but there you go.

2. Upping my mileage

The goal to run 16+K/week was reached Friday and with my run today I got up to 27.8K for this week. Had some problems with my knees but it’s not going to stop me. I’m just focusing more on stretching/rolling to get a handle on this problem. Thinking that my shoes are contributing to the knee pain too, but the plan is to keep running in the Asics until I get to Seattle and can visit a proper running store to get some help finding good shoes.

3. Yoga 2 times/week

This week I’ve actually been doing yoga three times. At home, by myself in front of a mirror to keep track on my body. Still so new with the yoga, I can’t really be sure I’m holding the poses right. But I’m getting there. And the yoga really makes me feel great!

4. Foam Roll

We’ve had three pretty long dates, me and the roll, and I only cried once.

Q: Do you have any goals for the month of October? Did you have a good week? Do you do yoga at home – if so, do you have any recommended yoga videos/links for me?

October Week 1 – A summary

The first week of October is coming to an end. I must say it’s been a good start of the month. Earlier this week I set up my October Goals and I’m thinking I’ll do a follow up on it.

1. Plank A Day

I’ve been doing good. On Saturday I only did a short straight plank (I was totally exhausted after my day in town Friday) but otherwise I’ve been getting both straight and side planks done every day.

2. Upping my mileage

I got 19,6K running (+ 5,8K walking) in this week and that means I totally got this goal covered for the week. And my last two runs were totally pain free too, which made me so happy! Bring on the next week so that I can keep on going with this goal! Thinking of me wanting to run a Half Marathon this coming spring it’s definitely time for me to add on some K’s now.

3. Yoga 2 times/week

Check. One time in class and one on my own at home. My biggest problem with my body is that I have a really weak back and shoulders and the yoga seems to really help me out with this thinking of my sore muscles the day after doing yoga. Great!

4. Foam Roll

I wish I could say that I did better with this goal. I’ve only rolled 3 times this week and I should really try to get it done more often, so that’s something to work with coming week.

Q: Do you have any goals for the month of October? How’s the first week of this month been for you?

Me + Yoga = True

It took me years and years of wanting to try yoga before it actually became reality. About 20 minutes drive from where I live there’s this amazing woman who runs a Massage place and two times a week she transforms her massage room into a yoga room. I’ve been wanting to go for a couple of months now, and two weeks ago I finally made it. I shoved my fear for yoga away and just went for it!

And I enjoyed it. I’ve become less flexible due to lack of proper stretching when I started to run and I definitely felt it during the class, but this amazing woman helped me through the class and left me craving for the coming class two days later. After being to class 5 times I can’t understand WHY THE HELL I waited so long to start doing yoga?! I absolutely love it, and of course feeling my body’s need for it it makes me even happier.. I’ve been leaving every class with a smile on my face and with a very nice feeling of being energized and content, all at the same time.

I really thought that I, who normally is very aware of my body and how it looks, would be uncomfortable with the stretching and bending and so on. But during class I forget EVERYTHING and I’m just in the moment focusing on my body and my breathing. Ok, I’m struggling with the breathing part so far but I’m getting there.. I also quickly realized that many of the yoga poses are great options for stretching after my runs and that’s of course always welcome.

So here I am – totally sold on the idea of doing yoga AT LEAST two times a week. I look forward to EVERY class and am excited to see what I can do with my body as time goes on.
